"New Beginning," Photography by Adrian
"New Beginning" by Adrian

I try to be humble about what I do. Photography pleases me. It pleases me, as well, that other people seem to have some appreciation for my photos. However, I have had too much exposure to too many artists who are brilliant in their vision and inscrutable in their talent to have any false pretenses about my own work. This is a process for me, not a product. This is a path for me, not a destination. I do not intend to ever really arrive. I can see how far the path extends, and I am simply glad to be walking down it.

My first point and shoot digital camera transformed my casual interest  in photography into a persistent need to frame my world in two  dimensions.  That little camera has traveled around the country with me and still works well, despite the fact that it is carrying sand from the desert and the shores of two different oceans. Although I work in the field of Information Technology, I  have a degree in Forestry.  I spend a great deal of time outdoors, and  my camera is nearly always with me. My primary equipment now is an Olympus digital SLR.

I constantly push myself to improve my technical ability, but it  is not enough to take a technically-impeccable photo of an object.   Rather, I prefer to try to capture the essence of my subject: a flower  in its environment being a flower, a stream being a stream, a wall, a  tree, a sun, an insect.  When I can convey the beauty, the absurdity, or  the notability of my world and the feelings I have when I perceive it,  I feel as though I have accomplished the kind of photography I want to  do. Each of my photographs represents a moment in my life and in my perception. I remember them all vividly. I am a lucky girl.

I have presented my work in exhibits in a number of places. Most recently, two of my photographs were juried into the 76th Annual Cumberland Valley Photographic Salon at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. As well: both the Museum of Temporary Art and the Library at the Penn State Mont Alto campus, the SHAPE Gallery, the Carlisle Arts Learning Center, Chambersburg Council for the Arts, Huntingdon County Fair, Shippensburg Community Fair, Rillo's of Carlisle, Hunters Valley Winery, Big Oak Cafe, Espresso Yourself Cafe, the Meiserville Inn, Murata Business Center, the Ranch House Tavern, and Sadler Health Center. Several of my photos were chosen to be included in the publication Concise Encyclopedia of Temperate Tree Fruit in 2003. I always have pieces hanging in the Sale Gallery for the Perry County Council of the Arts and in the Sale Gallery of CALC. My most current gallery exhibit is at Rillo's in Carlisle. My current memberships are with the SHAPE organization, the Carlisle Arts Learning Center, the Perry County Council of the Arts, the Huntingdon County Arts Council, and the Mont Alto Pottery Guild. I also stay in close contact with the Chambersburg Council for the Arts.

Recently, just for fun, I started writing fiction and picked up the banjo. I'm never bored. =)
