self-portrait, from the redredred series

 

ABOUT THIS SELF-PORTRAIT            This self-portrait belongs to a series of self-portraits that I call my redredred series.  This is the only of the series that will be designated for exhibition.  My inspiration for the series was derived from a red wall belonging to my partner, and a yellow light-casting lamp that he keeps in the room.  At first I wasn’t sure how I wanted to capitalize on and use the colors.  I finally decided that the best way to achieve the effects I wanted was to be the subject myself. I like the final product.  The stark contrasts, the bright colors, the half-hiding and half-revealing of my own face all combine to deliver the impact that I had hoped to achieve.  I did not post-process any of the image besides cropping it to size.
