I took a class in June of 2007 that dealt with black and white photography. One of the challenges set forth to us by our teacher, Don Cooper (an incredibly talented photographer who used to work for National Geographic), was to capture an old building of some sort and portray it without color. I found that the assignment forced me to seek out architecture that offered a multitude of textures, angles, and contrasting lightings. It was a pleasure to find this building and then explore it with my lens. This building was a retired coaling station used by trains that transported iron from a south-central Pennsylvania iron company around the turn of the century. This building suffers from disuse and has nearly been taken back by the neighboring woods. |
